Inspiration For A New Small Business Come About In The Strangest Ways

A school project led one entrepreneur to a successful small business.

For CEO Laura Bisel of Bizzy Fizz Bath Treats, it all started with her son’s exploding volcano science project. 

Bisel explained how the idea for Bizzy Fizz Bath Treats came from her efforts on her son’s behalf.

But her son did more than that. After creating the Bizzy Fizz treats, he had another idea.

“We started giving them away as gifts, and more and more people started asking for them. My son looked at me one day and said, "Mom, can we make this a business?"  I went along with it NEVER expecting we would be where we are today.”

As she tells other would be entrepreneurs, “launching a start-up company is challenging, but with passion, knowledge, and support, the business will grow to be a successful one.

But growing the business was not easy.”

“As an entrepreneur it means learning how to run a business mostly by trial-and-error, she adds.

Today, Bizzy Fizz Bath Treats has grown. According to Bisel, “our greatest success so far has been creating products for celebrity events for the Golden Globes, Oscars, and Primetime Emmy Awards.”   

How did her start-up business become so successful?

Bisel offers five tips for entrepreneurs who are starting out:

 

  1. How to finance the start-up: Fund start-up costs with personal income. Begin with a small website, and once there is a demand for the product(s) transition to an LLC in order to consciously budget from profits to further the business.
  2. Learn HOW to run a business:  Learn and follow the standard regulations for the FDA concerning the product lines and packaging. Understand business taxes, sales tax regulations, safe manufacturing standards, and most of all, create SPACE for manufacturing the product.
  3. Know your industry, competitors, and customers: When the business supplies a great product, customers can be very loyal and word of mouth holds more weight than a print ad. Customers will do a great job at creating buzz for the business.
  4. Know and use local business resources:  There are many free mentoring organizations out there like SCORE, city small business networks, even community education classes.  Take advantage of the resources available.
  5. Learn about social media and use it: It is extremely important to keep in touch with your customers, and keep them in the loop. 

Finally, Bisel explains that small businesses grow based upon “passion, continually learning, and the strive for improvement.”
